Duration: Six months

Job Description: Kurdistan centre for Gender Studies is a newly-established centre for research and training at Soran University. The centre is funded by UNWOMEN and UNDP and is supported by the KRG High Council of Women’s Affairs. We are currently recruiting highly motivated researchers for our research unit with the urpose of promoting interdisciplinary research in the field of Gender Studies with particular reference to the Kurdistan/Kurdish context.  We are considering research proposals which include, but are not limited to,

-          Gendering migration and diaspora

-          Islamic family laws: opportunities and challenges of Islamic laws

-          Gender and tribal laws

-          Youth, gender and social media

-          Gendered national identity

-          Trauma in women’s war narratives

-          Gender and economic empowerment in the Kurdistan Regional Government

-          Violence against women: legislations, failures and success

-          Gender and higher education in the KRG

-          Gender and armed conflicts in Kurdistan

-          Gender and minorities in the KRG

Unlike the rest of the country, the Kurdistan region is secure. Direct flights to Europe and the Gulf link the Kurdistan Region directly to the outside world. Main duties:

- Conducting research projects in coordination with the director of the centre

- Publishing the research outcome in internationally recognised peer reviewed journals and present research at conferences

- Participating in the drafting of grant applications

Essential criteria:

- PhD in Gender Studies or related discipline (MA holders with strong research background will also be considered)

- Record of high quality publications

- Ability to work as part of a team

- Good organizational skills

Desired criteria:

- Familairty with Kurdish language

- Experience in curriculum development

- Experience in interdisciplinary research

- Writing grant applications
