Today’s Faculty of Arts started life in 2004 as the College of Education, a branch of Salahaddin University. It featured six departments: Kurdish studies, Arabic, English, math, psychology, and humanities. Later on the College of Education was incorporated in the autonomous Soran University. By 2010, the Faculty of Arts at Soran University was comprised of these six departments: Kurdish Language, Arabic Language, English Language, Psychology, History, and Geography and most recently, in 2012, the Sociology department was also added. Today the total number of students is 1309 and the total number of teaching staff is 129.
Mission: The Faculty of Arts is committed to fostering competitive and high-quality programs in humanities and social sciences, thus, providing students with the skills they will need for their personal and academic development as well as their future careers.
