On 11 February 2014, during the ceremony of signing three scientific contracts with University of Leicester, the president of Soran University,Dr. Muslih Mustafa, gave a talk to the attendees.

Over the past three decades, we have witnessed important changes in the political, cultural and constitutional frameworks of Middle Eastern societies. On the one hand, from the Iranian Revolution of 1979 to the 'Arab Spring' of 2011, the rise of political Islam has drawn attention to Islam, regional political upheavals, and the interaction between religion and politics in both Northern Africa and the Middle East.
The Handren Centre is arranging an awareness project at archeological sites in and around Soran City. Leading the project will be archeological and cultural experts from Soran University where the Handren Centre for language and cultural research is based. The aim of the awareness project is to encourage the preservation of Soran archeological sites.
