Soran University held its First Student Conference on the 27th and 28th May 2015 with the guest of honor Her Excellency, Renata Trzcinska, Polish Consul for the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Also in attendance were Dr Muslih Mustafa, President of Soran University, the Deans of Soran University’s faculties as well as lecturers, guests and students. The conference opened with a video which showed the past activities of Soran University.
The first speech was delivered by Dr Muslih Mustafa who, on behalf of himself and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, welcomed the attendees. He pointed out that ‘Soran University has broken a historic record in its academic activities.’ Dr Muslih also stated the aim of the conference, explaining that ‘Soran University wants to make this conference a showcase for invention and science; the message is to make this an annual practice for the participation of students. Soran University, as with other universities in Kurdistan, wants to hold such conferences annually for research projects’. At the end of his speech, Dr Muslih hoped for success forall the students and wanted them to strive until they reached the zenith of their potential.
Following Dr Muslih’s speech the Consul of the Polish Republic addressed the conference. She stated that she was very happy to have been hosted by Soran University and described the event as ‘a great and important event.’ She then talked about the relationship between Iraq and Poland and hoped for more academic cooperation between Polish and Kurdish universities.
It was then time for the research projects to be presented. The skill of students and the high quality of their research gave the conference a stimulating atmosphere. In the second day of the conference the remaining research projects were presented.
