Soran University Student Wins International Race

 

On the 25th May 2015, Akar Sherzard, a student from Soran University, took part in a marathon with twenty thousand other runners in Greece. He went for the 10 Km distance and finished third in a time of 40 minutes and thirty seconds. Akar Sherzad, also known as Gasha, is a freshman in the Sports Department of the Faculty of Education at Soran University. He has competed successfully in a number of international races achieving good results. 

He is trained by his lecturer, Mr Shamal Hamza. In an exclusive talk with our website, Mr Shamal explained that Gasha was due to compete in another marathon in May in Hamburg but due to his final exams at the Faculty he could not make it. He also explained that they are preparing for the Berlin Marathon which is due to take place in December 2015 in Germany. Mr Shamal stressed that they will keep training and winning championships. At the end of the interview, Gasha’s trainer and lecturer expressed his gratitude for the assistance they have received from the Presidency of Soran University as a whole, and from His Excellency Dr Muslih Mustafa, President of Soran University, in particular.
Last year, Gasha took part in both the Palermo and Catania Championships and achieved second and third places.
