A Delegation from the Association of Arab Universities (AARU) Visited Soran University

A delegation from Association of Arab Universities (AARU), consisting of Prof Dr Sultan Abu-UrabiAdwan, Secretary General of the AARU, Dr Muhammad Hamdan, Vice President of the Secretariat General of the AARU and Prof Dr Ahmed Dezayi, President of Salahaddin University, visited Soran University on the 1st August 2016. The delegation was received by Dr Rushdy Samad, Vice President of Soran University for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr Nahro Zagros, Vice President of Soran University for Scientific Affairs, Dr Yadgar Ismail, Vice President of Soran University for Students' Affairs and a number of deans, lecturers and students from Soran University.
In themeeting, the delegation explained the aim of their visit and stated that they wanted to see the quality of study in the universities of the Kurdistan Regionand observe their activities. A member of staff from Soran University explained the quality of studying in Soran University to the delegation. The delegation then visited the CLAD centre and Soran University's Delizyan Campus. After seeing the campus and its modern studying halls and laboratories and attending a presentation by Dr Hiwa Balisane, the delegation expressed their amazement about the development of Soran University, and considered it an exceptional step within whole of Kurdistan and Iraq.
In the coming months, the AARU is going to consider the new membership dossiers submitted by universities – including universities from the Kurdistan Region, in particular Soran University.
The Association of Arab Universities is a non-governmental organization that has an independent legal charter. Its membership includes 280 Arab Universities at the present time. AARU was established in 1964 following a resolution issued by the Arab League. A temporary Secretariat General was formed in Cairo, Egypt. In 1969, a permanent Secretariat General was designated. Its permanent headquarters has been in Amman since 1984, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
