Soran University Visits Peshmerga Forces

On the 16th June 2015, a delegation led by Dr Muslih Mustafa, President of Soran University and all three Vice Presidents, as well as a number of Soran University staff – visited the frontlines of the Peshmerga forces on the Bashik Front. This visit was part of Soran University’s campaign of support for the Peshmerga forces that defend the stability and security of Kurdistan. The delegation handed the Peshmerga forces material help donated by Soran University staff.

Soran University Opens a Centre for Gender Studies

More than forty participants attended the workshop to launch the first Gender Studies Department in the Kurdistan Region, held at the Chwarchra Hotel in Erbil on the 4th June. The department, based at Soran University, has been initiated in collaboration with, and supported by, UN Women, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) High Council for Women’s Affairs (KRGHCWA) as well as the Presidency of Soran University.

Khasraw Jaff: Art Does not Possess a Satisfactory Presence in Kurdistan

On the 22nd April 2015, a number of activities took place at Soran University's Faculty of Arts. The activities were concerned with the engineering and artistic works of the Kurdish engineer and writer Khasraw Jaff. The event was simultaneous with the 117th anniversary of the beginning of Kurdish journalism.

Soran University Student Wins International Race

On the 25th May 2015, Akar Sherzard, a student from Soran University, took part in a marathon with twenty thousand other runners in Greece. He went for the 10 Km distance and finished third in a time of 40 minutes and thirty seconds. Akar Sherzad, also known as Gasha, is a freshman in the Sports Department of the Faculty of Education at Soran University. He has competed successfully in a number of international races achieving good results.

A group of Soran University Lecturers Have Volunteered to Help the Displaced People

Last year, the self-proclaimed Islamic State –also known as ISIS –occupied a range of Iraqi areas and among them Mosul. Iraqi forces handed over their weapons and tanks to the Islamic State and so civilians chose to flee their beloved city into escape the brutal rule of the terrorists. Most of them sought refuge in Kurdistan. Soran city embraced a number of refugees and its people welcome the refugees warmly.
