The Russian Consul General in Erbil visited Soran University. He was accompanied by the representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Russia. They met with the University Council and a number of students. Several topics related to international cultural and academic ties were discussed.
On Sunday, November 6, 2022, Mr. Maxim Rubin, accompanied by Mr. dr. Dana Abubakar, KRG representative in Russia, Soran University. The delegation was received by AP.Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, President of Soran University, and members of the University Council.
In the first leg of his visit, the Russian Consul General met the Council of Soran University. The meeting highlighted the bilateral development of academic and scientific relations. In this regard, the Russian Consul General expressed his willingness to expand Soran University's relations with Russian universities. He also touched upon study programs that annually provide scholarships to students in Kurdistan Region. These programs aim to continue studying in Russia and provide financial support to all students. Scholarships for students will also be announced this year, and the number of seats has been increased to 60. For this purpose, students in general, and students of Soran University in particular, can benefit from such programs.
For his part, Soran University President expressed his delight at this meeting. He highly valued the cooperation and coordination between Soran University and the Russian Consulate General. He hoped that the prospects for cooperation and coordination would be broadened for the benefit of science and students.
In the second leg of his visit, the Russian Consul General met with several students of all faculties. He spoke about his personal experience as a student, he touched then upon the areas that he had studied. He also explained to students the education programs. The students asked him many questions. There was an intense discussion about the assistance that the Russian Consul General could provide to students. He responded to several questions regarding ties between Russia and the Kurdistan Region.
In the last leg of their visit, the Russian Consul General and KRG representative in Russia, visited several tourist attractions in Soran region. They were accompanied by Soran University President and his assistants
Soran University attaches great importance to scientific and academic relations locally and internationally. In this context, memoranda of understanding have been signed with several universities and academic institutions in Russia, including the Federal University of Kazan.
