On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, on World Geographic Information System (GIS) Day, the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts, Soran University, organized a forum at Bishkji Hall entitled "The Role of the Geographic Information System in Geographic Research." The Forum was attended by the Faculty Dean, Dr. Karmand Abdullah, and a large number of lecturers, students, and staff.

Three different themes were presented at the forum by the academic staff of the Geography Department.

GIS Day was designated in November 1999, and the third Wednesday of November is designated as World GIS Day. The Day's purpose is to present and highlight the vital role that GIS plays in solving spatial problems, based on the collection. Analysis, and processing of data and information to find appropriate solutions to solve problems, as well as making appropriate proposals for the future.
